The original external wood finish was a very thick, almost plastic type material, which I estimate at least 1/16th inch thick! Currently it shows an appearance of a light 'muddy' brown. It also seems to have worn extremely well. The Newport was built by Capital Yachts, Inc. in Harbor CA. How would I duplicate this original finish. This would require removing the remaining original finish, preparing the wood (probably teak) and then duplicating the original finish? Is there a NewPort Users group, other than this one available for information. Thanks for your help Art

I own a 1987 Newport 30 and the wood on the exterior is teak. I'll be refinishing it this spring using Cetol light, giving it 3 coats then 3 coats of Cetol clear. This should keep it looking good for a few years. There are several Newort sites and groups that you can find information at. Newport@list.sailnet.net and Capitalyachts.info if this is still up and running there are also several groups on Yahoo Groups. Al Duquette s/v Mast Confusion N30 MK lll
