I have often wondered how they take the wide angle view photos of the insides of a boat or motorhome and get it to show the view that our eyes can see... and ive discovered it. im not sure how they will view on the site, but im going to find out as soon as i upload a couple of pics...

the wider the swing/angle during the panoramic shot, the wider the aspect ratio is, so you get a very wide shot thats not so tall.... a short swing of the camera will give a taller picture, but not as much view to the sides...

the first, is about a 30 degree sweep of the salon, the second is about a 70 degree sweep of the V-berth

the last photo is almost a full 180 degree panoramic swing from the companionway steps....

If done professionally, they usually take several and stitch em together in Photoshop or like with artistic license on cropping.

Impressive as there is no fish eye effect.

yes, I was impressed with it. its taken with the camera in a samsung G5 cellphone.
there is a small learning curve in being able to hold the camera perfectly level while rotating, but there is a built in leveling meter to help know where your at all the time.

as Mark mentioned about the "photo stitching" done by the professionals, I think this technology will make that art obsolete...

and the technology is not really that new, but its relatively new to us consumers... google earth has been using it for a few years now

You can also create vertical images. The shrouds look loose due to the phone not being plumb the whole time.

I suspect they are taking two exposures from a tripod and stitching them together with software. Photoshop, and many other editing programs will do this.

The current version iPhones and Samsungs can take some quality panorama photos these days. They are making the "push-here-dummy" digital cameras obsolete. Another option to consider is the GoPro Black (3 or 4). With its 14mm f2.8 lens, it takes fisheye pictures with professional results that are on par with a >$5,500 full frame DSLR and prime lens. The GoPro's bundled software, CineForm, removes the distortion from the fisheye effect.
