Experience with sudden demise of Promariner Smart Charger?

I am suddenly faced with the need to replace a 2-1/2 year old Promariner 12 "Smart Charger" which suddenly packed it in. I am "gun-shy" about the brand now, so am looking for other's experiences with the equipment. I have a 2- Battery House Bank, and a separate "Start" battery, all are group 27s, and are separated by a Zantrex Echo Charger. I have just completed the engine harness upgrade (Catalina 34), and the alternator output now is directly connected to the House Bank.

I have checked all connections and fuses, with no luck; the Promariner displays no lights, although it has an active AC Source. I demounted the unit and direct connected it to the batteries... still no activity. This unit has performed very well since new, and now, nothing! I'd appreciate your insights.

Call the manufacturer and see what kind of warranty the unit has. They will usually offer to replace with a rebuilt unit on a prorated basis. If your cost plus shipping exceeds $200 just go down to your marine store a get a Xantrex 20 amp smart charger.

With the Echo Charger you do not need a dual output charger. The Iota DLS-30/IQ4 is an excellent charger at an excellent value compared to either Xantrex or Professional Mariner. The also make it in a 15A version. These chargers can also operate as a dedicated DC power supply if you remove your batts in the winter,

Thanks for your insights gentlemen; after contacting Promariner this afternoon, and receiving a less than "technically considered reply", that being something to the effect that the unit has maybe "packed it in" (in so many words), and with no attempt to confirm some possibilities (such as fuse integrity), the verdict was simply "maybe a power surge caused the failure". I have concluded that my original choice was based on "price point", rather than quality. Ihave therefore decided to go with the Xantrex True charge 2, 20 amp charger. The "dance" that I would otherwise anticipate involves a loss of time, and a cost comparable to buying a new unit, while paying duty and Customs Processing fees to have a refurbished unit sent to me.

I am not inclined to replace the unit with another "Promariner" product. Thanks again for your responses.
