Exhaust valve

Hello all,

At this point in time I find myself in need of one exhaust valve for my MD6A, and was wondering if someone along the eastern seaboard ( from Florida northward might have a used valve for sale that is in good condition.

I have priced a hew valve at Marinepartsexpress.com and find the price of $149.20US a bit exorbitant. Any one who can help me in this matter, it will be appreciated.

My autopsy shows that the valve stem stuck in the guide, causing the piston to strike and bend the stem. The reason for the sticking? It was apparent that the valve had been leaking by for some time, carbonizing the stem, causing it to stick.

Thanks in advance, and a pleasant good evening to you all.!

Hi DOn

You are lucky they have them in stock.None available in the UK!! You
should cost a complete rebuild and you wont see much change from over
$2000 for parts alone!

Cheers

Don-
I just completed having a valve job done on my MD6. I got a quote of
$130 for the valves. I had the old ones reground. However I believe
that automotive valves can be found for replacement. Suggest you try
that approach.

Hi Richard;
I have already considered this approach.........finding an automotive valve of a slightly larger size and having it machined by a competant mechanist. Under the low stresses delevoped in the MD6 this should be okay I think.

Y'know..........? It's a challenge to keep those old Volvo-Pentas ticking away. What excellent engineering went into their design.

Best regards,

Don.
