Exhaust hose

I notice the other day that my exhaust hose appears to be collapsed or flattened. I wonder how the hose is attached to the stern exhaust outlet. Is there board to lift so I can get access to the hose clamp. Any idea how long the hose is between the engine and exhaust flange?

On my 1987 H31, the hose is attached to the outlet (behind the fule tank) with hose clamps. If I remember correctly it took a 5' piece to go from the engine to the exhaust "box" and another 5' piece to go from the box to the outlet. To get access to the rear of the engine compartment, I dug out the wood screw hole plugs and removed the rear panel and reinstalled with exposed screws for easy future access (a big help when replacing the exhaust mixing elbow or shift cable). Getting to the exhaust hose outlet can be hard if the fuel tank is in place. Recently I removed my fuel tank to clean it out and replace the filler hose. I cut the partition separating the aft sections just forward of the fuel tank. Replaced the outlet hose at that time, real easy to do then. Since the partition was coated plywood, I replaced it with "starboard", purchasing a large piece from a sign shop, cost more than plywood, but will not rot or break down. Also future access to remove or service fuel tank and exhaust hose is only six screws away. By the way, how did your air conditioning project work out?
