Exhaust hose leaks

I have a small leak when I shut down my M25 on my 83 Catalina 30. The leak appears to be in the OLD exhaust hose where it connects to the Aqualift muffler. I intend to replace the hose and patch the Aqualift as required. My problem is that whenever I work with heavy wire enforced hose I have great difficulty getting it to go on the associated fitting. I have tried pulling out a portion of the reinfocing wire, lubrication, but still have great difficulty. Is there a better way? Is there exhaust hose without the wire? I will also try to get that hump hose device when I attempt this project.

I know the difficulty

Yes, there is an exhaust hose without the wire. Plus if the angle is too great you may consider an inline fitting of an elbow or 45degree fitting. I use marine grease, a very large channel lock pliers and a lot of determination. Good luck.

Radiator hose

Last year I changed the exhaust hose going from the water injection point to the aqualift muffler with a auto radiator hose. Looked through a bunch to find ones prebent for a given auto. Now there is a natural bend and no stress on the neck of the aqualift. Removed hose had no wire but put sideways stree on muffler. Once the water is injected into exhaust stream it is cool enough in my boat to use radiator hose (must be able to handle above 212 degrees).

Hot water

Only thing that worked for me was using hot (boiling) water. Great excuse to check if you have enough stove fuel.!!! Stu

I didn't know about the silicone hose. Thanks for the hot water tip Stu and thanks to all. I will do this over the winter.
