Hello. I am leaking water/exaust from the box end of the hose that connects the header pipe to "the box it goes into." Engine model is Univeral M3-20. First, what is the exact name of "the box"? Second, has anyone else had this happen? If so, what am i going to find? Tightening the hose clamps a bit didn't fix it. I tried to get the hose off, but its really stiff so I'm probably going to take the header pipe off to see if I can get it loose. Is some high temp sealer around the base after I see what is going on a good or bad idea? Thanks, Mike Elmore Windward Hull C28 - Hull #7

Water Lift Muffler

The "box" you're referring to is the water lift muffler. I've read (may be in the archives on this site but, if not, check Catalina International Association website tech section) that the fiberglass pipe extending from the muffler is often out-of-round, inhibiting a good seal. I think the repair involved fairing it to round with epoxy fairing compound. You also may find that new hose might give you a better seal. I wouldn't seal it with anything that is going to inhibit future removal.

Now I have more info

I got the header pipe off and was able to work the pipe out of the hose to get it out of the way. I then proceeded to work the hose off the 1 1/2 inch nipple on the muffler box. It was at this point that I realized my leak was not the problem of the hose, but that the nipple is CRACKED at the joint where it comes out of the muffler box. In the process of working the hose off, it cracked off completely. I now have 4" of fiberglass tube and a gaping hole in the muffler box. Any suggestions on how to reattach? I'm out of commission until this gets fixed. btw...the crack in the fiberglass nipple would readily explain why the water was bubbling out at such a good clip. 8p Thanks, Mike Elmore Windward Hull C28 - Hull #7

new aqualift

Buy a new aqualift mufflerand have it installed or do it yourself. It is not hard or expensive. I could suggest some temp fixes, but would not sleep well.
