An Oday owner on the Oday forum suggested this app to me. It uses your Android or iPhone gps to record our trip on a google map. At any point during the trip you can touch the photo icon and it activates your phone camera. When you take the picture it adds a pin to the map with the photo. You can add a caption then, or edit it later on the website. The best part is it is free. Today we went out on the lake with our Catalina 22 to test this out. It was very cool and very easy to use. You can have it add the trip to your facebook from your phone too.

This the website

This is the trip we did today. No wind at the beginning of the trip so we motored around. I joked with my wife we may be paddling home because I forgot to top off the 2.5hp dink motor we had on the sailboat.......we ran out of gas just a few minutes later and had to sail back praying for on again off again puffs of breeze. You have to zoom in twice to get a better view of the lake.

Liked the sound of Everytrail so loaded it and took a quick look. Seems that all of the trails you do (and pictures) are available for anyone to look at/see. I was not able to find a privacy setting to turn off the "sharing" of my trails and photos. Seems like they missed an opportunity here, because while I really like the idea of everytrail I am not sure I like my trails and photos being public with no control over the future use of the photos. Also looked at Glympse (another post) which allowed me to share the track/location but did not have the ability to link the photos. But then only the people I invite get to see it.

I share quite a few photos and stories of our trips here at SBO and anyone has access to them. For me it just comes down to being selective about what info and photos you share. I agree it would be improved if you could make a private trip.

Thanks for the link. Tried it today driving around town. Pretty kool but as srhummer says, I'm not nuts about sharing to the world. I'm gonna look into if the Pro version is more secure. Like Recess stated We are very selective about what we share.

I also download tracks from my Garmin into Everytrail. I like baing able to easily share a track with 450 of my closest friends on Facebook.

Re privacy, I'm not concerned that someone knows I sailed Manhasset Bay last summer on a particular Sunday. I do it to share. If you want to keep your tracks private, load them into Google Earth.

I'm not concerned about sharing what we did last week , just what I'm doing at the time that we are actually away from home. Or like when I'm away helping with a delivery I don't need the world knowing the wife may be home alone.

You can wait to post it when you get home or later. It just saves the track and the pictures to the track. It is not visible to anyone until you publish it.
