Hi, we had an Espar Hydronic heat system installed when we bought the boat and the unit is dripping coolant from somewhere on the backof the boiler unit or maybe the hose flange. It lost its coolant in 3 weeks of running and blew cold air.
Have any of you had issues with your units or warrantee problems ?

The heat is great to extend our use and keep the admiral happy and I would sure suggest it as an upgrade, it also gives us hot water on demand, which all admirals need. Make sure you get the split blowers so you can heat the head and the v berth as well as the salon and rear cabin. Also, it is worth paying to have the batteries moved or what ever it takes to point the exhaust away from the head of the sleepers in the rar cabin, as well as having the unit mounted on the ''foot'' side lazarette. It is a big job. There are some good deals on installs this winter from Webasto perhaps it is a better boiler.

There is no filter on the diesel fuel line to the Espar, is this ok or should I have at least a cheapo, or a Racor ?
Thanks in advance for your comments on Espar and filters, lots of readers enjoy this site and the knowledge gained.

I did a lot of research into hydronic heating units and I believe the ITR Hurricane to be the best.

It could be that the coil in the boiler is leaking. How old is the boiler?

You should be running your fuel through a 2 micron unit before it hits the pump. The nozzles clog very easily.

Here is how my cabin heater draws from the cleanest fuel in the boat, probably better than 2 micron due to the constant recirculation, and I almost never have to worry about pumping fuel up to the gravity feet tank. My Newport drip pot heater probably isn't as sensitive to particles but it's still nice to know it's getting very clean fuel.

BTW, the tank doubles as an emergency fuel supply in case of total clog up of the main fuel system.
