Ericson or Lancer 29

I am looking for a liveaboard boat and I could probably get an Ericson 29 or a Lancer 29 for a good price. I like the Ericson layout but the cabin tops core is pretty well shot as well as a few other small spots and some gel coat cracking. The lancer needs some cosmetic work but is more sound as far as the deck goes, one soft spot on the cabin to but it is in a perfect spot for another skylight hatch.I really like the ericson layout and how much lighter it is inside but am I asking for trouble with the deck repairs. I should mention that I am a good handyman and will probably be able to do the work myself while I live aboard.

What's your budget?

What is your budget. That is the first step. How much and how far are you going to sail? What equipment is on each boat? There are a whole lot of a questions that you should ask yourself before you should start looking. There are a lot of boats out there so wht limit yourself to two models.

Budget and Boats

I am trying to stay under 10-12K. I have just started looking and I would be nuts to grab the first boat I find. I was just trying to figure out if I got the Ericson and put some work into it if I would have even more boat for my money. I like the airiness of the Ericson but structurally the dedck of the Lancer is in better shape. So I guess I am just comparing these two models since they are what I have come across so far.
