Ericson 27 - Galley Sink Issue

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if anybody has ever tried to get the galley sink out of an Ericson 27 (or similar). The sink is so deep that it needs to be lifted straight up but there isn't enough clearance due to the pitch of the hatch. I've included a photo. I swear they must have built the boat around this sink!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

You are correct! They finished the interior then mated the
cabin top/inner liner to the hull afterwards.

can ya use a Multitool (vibrating tool with offset saw blade) to cut the forward edge of the hole bigger (but not so big as to go beyond the sink edge)?? Then you could tip it forward to clear the companionway surround.. maybe?

Yes! Now that you mentioned it - I remember reading somewhere that these sailboats are built from the bottom/hull to the top so I suppose that would make sense. Very troubling here, however. Thank you!

That's a great idea I didn't think of. I plan on replacing the laminate surface too so if I make a mistake I could perhaps cut the new surface to have the sink installed farther forward (even if it's just a half inch) that way I can easily reinstall it.

Thank you for all the responses so far, this is my first time using a forum for anything and I'm very pleased.

Ericson 29 Southport..
Underneath the sink you will find about four clamps that hold the sink down to the counter. A pain to get to, but manageable.

If so, are you going to leave it in place and cover it on the boat? Or, are you going to take it off, too? If so, take it off with the sink still in the hole, and then...:)
Have you tried removing the inside hatch trim?
Good luck.

All,

I ended up bending the corner of the flange of the sink to clear the companionway and get it out. Thanks for everybody's help!
