Getting ready to make some epoxy repairs below waterline on a sailboat. Any problem using matt with epoxy, somewhere I remember reading something like epoxy attacking an additive used to hold matt together. Have done a quick scan of the literature I have and can't find anything to that effect, but it does seem like everything only mentions using woven fabric.

Epoxy and FG mat

Gene: You are exactly right about not using mat with epoxy. According to Don Casey in his book on Sailboat Hull and Deck Repair, the binding in the mat may react with the epoxy affecting adhesion and permiability of the layup. He suggests using thickened epoxy to lay the first layer of cloth onto for your repair. I have just finished some major repair of balsa core using epoxy and found his book to be an excellent guide. Hope this helps and good luck. Bill

Thanks

Thanks Bill. Old age must be starting to get to me, can't remember where I read an article. Advantage is if it continues I won't remember ever seeing articles!
