Anybody know when or if the Weather Channel will rebroadcast the Chesapeake Bay Sailing episode again? I missed it and really wanted to see it, I've been to the website and can't find anything about a replay.

Don't bother

The show was worthless and most of the footage was from places other than the Chesapeake. Don't bother.

Really?

Orion, how could you tell that the footage was not CB? Most of the sailing I saw had no land masses in sight that could be identified. And even if it was not CB, did you not enjoy the extreme sailing footage? Tim R.

Link to watch the show on line

You can watch the four parts on line: http://epic.weather.com/epicPlayer.html?clip=5928&collection=epic3&nav=141&from=epic There is footage that clearly is recognizable as Chesapeake Bay: Annapolis, the Bay Bridge, etc. I didn't recognize anything from the Upper Bay. It was odd to see pictures supposedly of the Bay, yet no land is in sight in clear conditions. That happens in the Lower Bay, but the Lower Bay has much more traffic, and I didn't see that either in the photos. How can they cover Chesapeake sailing without covering such events as the Great Chesapeake Schooner Race? http://www.schoonerrace.org/index.htm Some times that race has many schooners stop at Solomon's Island because of extreme conditions. All in all, I enjoy watching sailors out in conditions a day sailor like me avoids.

I, too, watched the WX Channel

show on "Epic Conditions." While I always like to watch sailing videos, I found this show wanting for a variety of reasons. As a long time Chesapeake Bay sailor/racer, this show seemed to leave the impression that the Bay is notorious for howling winds and stormy weather. Not quite accurate, as any Bay sailor in June thru August will tell you. Sure, a number of thunderstorms or line squalls can come up, but they are not the typical weather pattern. There were also some implied inaccuracies like giving credit to the USCG for maintaining the NOAA Weather Buoy system. The show also implied that a number of Bay sailors are looking for, and hoping for, stormy weather to go out and sail in. The opposite is my impression and to suggest otherwise is irresponsible, IMHO. Finally, most of the shots of boats sailing were of the Volvo race last year, boats that don't call the Bay their home. While there is a lot of racing on the Bay, my guess is that most bay sailors are day sailors and cruisers, which were under-represented.
