Engine Zincs?

My Universal M25 diesel has some "corrosion" built up on a forward engine mount, looking like the crystaline buildup on an old battery. I thought I should check / replace pencil zincs on the engine, but couldn't find 'em! No mention in the engine manuals, either. There's a new zinc on the prop shaft, so I'm flummoxed. Any help on finding the location for the engine zincs, or maybe just tell me that there aren't any? Michael O'

Engine Zincs

Don't believe there are any in the engine itself. Assuming your heat exchanger is same set up as mine, you should find a "pencil" zinc in the heat exchanger. Look at the bottom port side - about a 3/8" brass hex that looks like a drain plug. If it hasn't been changed in some time it likely will only be a plug with no zinc. Remove, clean out the hole and replace with a new plug with zinc.

Harlan's Right

Harlan's right on Mike. The zinc in the heat exchanger is the only one in the M25. I had the same concerns that you did and contacted Universal to verify that it was the only one. Seems strange, but true!!

Which Forward Engine Mount?

Michael The guys are right, only the HX has a zinc. If the stuff you mentioned is on the starbord side engine mount, you should carefully check your raw water pump. Look around the seal both of the faceplate of the pump and the main housing of the pump into the engine. Many people have had to either repack or replace their pumps. Stu

Thanks, Guys!

Good info, and explains why I couldn't find a zinc on the engine! Maybe I'll add one to complement the HX zinc..... More "to-do's" for the next trip! Michael O'
