After a short outing sailing our yanmar 3HM35F will not restart. The starter button does not activate the starter. If we wait a half hour it will then restart. The solenoid does not click and the batteries are in good order. Not sure where this problem is.

Trace through the circuit

Sounds like a simple electrical problem. Probably a wire connection that needs tightening and/or cleaning. The time delay allows for cooling to occur which affects the wire connections and possible functioning of the solenoid. Trace the circuit: Is there voltage at solenoid input when pressing the start button- if not then trace back to the start button. Otherwise, is there voltage at the solenoid output - if not then the solenoid is the culprit - replace it. In the meantime, learn how to short the solenoid output with a screwdriver to get voltage to the starter and bypass the start button/solenoid circuitry. Yanmar Re-Start Problem

A possibility is the starter pushbutton itself. I had some starting problems that related to which spot on the pushbotton and at what angle I pressed on it. I had to find the 'sweet spot'. I finally replaced the pushbutton (about $28 from Mack Boring) and it works fine now for the last year. It was a really simple task to remove the old and put in the new. YANMAR WILL NOT START

I had the same problem. To solve the problem run A # 8 wire directly for the starter button to the selinoid. The reason it does not start after an outing is because the current wire heats up. Most of 3hm35f have this problem because the original wire is too small.
