and hose was typical clearish hose material (not esactly sure what material). After this happened i did read the instructions and it did say that the oil should be hot (as did some friends).John Perri

Did it come out easy or did it bind on something?If it is in the oil pan, it might not be that bad...What boat do you have and how easy is it to access the oil pan?r.w.landau
I did do a little push and pull to make sure i got all the oil. im thinking maybe it got cut on end of a piston.1995 Beneteau 321 with Perkins m30. Not sure yet if it will come easily out. I was too distraught to take a really good look.Save $ 80. Spend $ 2000. not a good deal.
If it was melted it should be obvious on the end. If it was cut it should also be obvious (jagged edge). I'd take the hose to where you bought the oil extractor and compare the hose to a new one and make sure that it is really 6" shorter before you go pullin any motor. Just my opinion.
have told you" I have a manual oil pump for that same purpose and I was concerned that a soft hose wouldn't hit the bottom so I found some copper tubing that was a tight fit in the hose and a couple of feet long. I shove that done the dipstick tube until it hits bottom. It has served me well. I offer this as a future way to avoid this anxiety producing problem.I agree that you should confirm the length of the new hose.Ross
So, thanks. Otherwise the next time i do this the anxiety might be a little high. So in order to do this, you have to have an exactly straight run right into the pan. I'll have to check if this is the case with mine.
I would ask a diesel mechanic but; it seems to me you could pump out the oil.Strain to look for pieces, flush the galleries with Acetone or Laquer Thinnerby filling the pan and rotating the engine without compression. Fill with oil'idle til warm then change the oil.
