I have a universal M 25 xpb in a Catalina 30. When I am in low rpms like any where under 1000 I have this terrible LOUD vibration/knocking sound. It really doesn't matter if I am in foward gear not. The engine mounts are tight and the transmission is properly aligned to the best that I can tell. Please give any ideas any of you might have. I am at a loss. I don't know much about diesels but it seems to run just fine at any other rpm. My guess is that I need to adjust some type of idle screw. Thanks for the replies.

Traumagard, I experienced this once but it turned out to be the cutlass bearing, not true in your case. Put in a rubber coupling on the shaft flange, or have an engine surveyor check it out. If the engine is running allright at other RPM'S then it must be an alighnment, shaft, coupler or engine-mount problem, whoops, muct say "issue" nowadays hey. ONe of our reighning motor-heads would be of more help than I can here; best I can come up with.

Idle adjustment
I'm not sure but I will just look for a screw and turn it whil the engine is running.
