When I start my engine I get a vibration for about 40 seconds then the engine purs like a kitten. A mechanic told me you have to warm the engine first before you start and metioned possible bad glow plugs--Its all greek to me. Is this vibration normal? Thanks. Richard

Advance the throttle a little

If you have a 1999 model H340, we have the same boat. I will normally advance the throttle to about 1300-1500 rpm once the oil pressure warning buzzer turns off, which smooths out the vibration dramatically. After the engine warms up in a couple of minutes, the vibration is less at idle (about 750 rpm) but it is never as smooth as it is at higher rpm. There are no glow plugs on this Yanmar 3GM30F... I'd wonder about your "mechanic"

There are NO glow plugs on a Yanmar.

Does he (the mechanic) know what he is talking about? But if the climate is cold, as it is in NY, and it has been, then it still may be cold fuel to run the engine. As soon as it begins to burn the cold fuel and gets to a warmmer bit of fuel from the tank, it will straighten out after the fuel warms up. Remember, only a bit of thr furl burns, then the rest is returned to the tank via the return line. Only the fuel in the fuel lines will be so cold. Does it smoke, too? If so, what color smoke? If it smokes grey, then I would think that that is your problem. Take heed from the other posters here, also. Try as they do!

Lanier is 19 ft down, still dropping but at a slower pace. Follow the ongoing thread at this link...
