Engine troubles

Captian JON

I am not getting full power from my 12 horse Yanmar,and my bilge is full of Fuel.Any body have any suggestions?

Sounds like a fuel leak.

Capt. JON: Sounds like a fuel leak. This may be allowing air into the system too. Start by locating the source of leak and you probably have your power problem put to bed. Be sure to get some oil aborb rags so you do not pump any more fuel overboard too.

you might have a fuel leak some where and starving the engine follow the fuel lines from your tank and check for leaks its only a guess the fuel in the bilge should not be there you must be leaking fuel some where may be a loose fitting or something.

Check the fuel filters

Both the primary and secondary. If the bowls aren't tight or the set screws are loose, you'll have fuel galore but it won't be obvious to look at either. Just don't overtighten the set screws or you'll strip the threads. Why the fuel pump housing is made out of soft aluminum is a mystery to me. Probably dreamed up by a boat-hating golfer.
