I have a MacGregor 26 with a Nissan 50 hp outboard motor which I purchased in 2000. Since the beginning, the engine appears to run fine for a while and then it will suddenly start to run rough. I have switched out the sparkplugs a couple of times and I have had the dealer look at the engine as well. According to the dealer this is an electronic engine, so there really aren't any adjustments to be made other than switching out sparkplugs. My boat is moored in a slip in the harbor. Today I was working on the boat and letting the engine run for a while. It ran smoothly for quite some time and then started to miss intermittantly again. Finally, it stopped working all together! It is quite frustrating and I am at a point where I may want to switch out this engine with a four-stroke engine which I am told is better and more reliable as well.I would appreciate any suggests, advice etc. from anyone out there!!! Is there anything else that I should look at? One more thing, I am wondering if being in the water during the winter may have something to do with these problems. It doesn't appear to occur as often during the warmer summer months. Also, I have looked at the fuel filter and there doesn't appear to be any water or other stuff in the cup. Thanks, Christian.
