All right Catalina nation, It is amazing how learning is involved when acquiring a new vessel. Here's another one for you sailors, although I have looked a the very helpful archives, I did not manage to find anything on this matter specifically. On our new C30 1987, when underway the engine throttle keep on slowly slipping back into the idle position. The system that the PO used was to hold it with a cord, which works but there's gotta to be a better and nicer way to do this. Is there any tension adjustment on the throttle, if so where? (Did not find anything in the C30 owners manuals) and how can it be adjusted? if not, any ideas? The pedestal is an Edison. I wish to thank all of you again, this forum is an amzing source of information! "G" "Emilie-Jolie" C30 1987

under the compass?

On my C320 there is a screw under the compass, first 4 bolts need to come out, remove the cover and there is a throttle screw to tighten. Mark the location of the compass with tape so you can set it back in the same place.

Throttle tention

On my c27 there is a friction adjustment inside the pedistal, under the compass. If that doesn't work let me know. There is another way, but a little more involved.

Under the compass

Hi The same problem with my C270. If your pedestal is Edson.....there is a friction screw adjustment under the compass,no major surgery, just takes a little time.....but worth it!......eh?

Throttle adjustment access

If you are not acquainted with your compass and compass cyclinder screws, this could be a big job. It is easy to remove the compass, just 3 screws need to be removed and the electrical wire disconnected. The 4 big screws that hold everthing togather under the compass can be a real problem to remove to finally get into the binnacle. If the screws can't be removed with a screw driver, you will have to cut the heads off the screws and remove them with vice grips. PB Blaster or other solvents won't help much, because the screws are about 6 inches long. New coated bolts can be purchased from Edson for about $26. Be carefull to not ruin the compass cylinder if you have to drill the heads off the big screws. We had this problem when we decided to lube the steering chain, etc. under the compass. Good luck with the big screws. Chuck

It works!

Gents, Thanks for the great advice it ended up being a ten minute job! Works great...done with the "bungie cord" already the steering station looks better...now with the installation of a drink holder. Keep it up! "G" "Emilie-Jolie" C30 1987

try a cable clamp..

This is what I did on my C-30. You can buy them for only a few dollars. Attach it to the throttle cable in the engine compartment and tighten it just enough to remove the problem. Simple, inexpensive, and you don't have to get new cables or take apart your pedestal! I've had this in place for 4 seasons with no trouble.

Throttle Cable Clamp

The clamp fix works great I had the same problem and was able to fix in 5 minutes for under $1.00 This was after a mechanic told me that he couldn't adjust the cable and $65.00 for 1/2 hour of labor. I know 3 people that had the same problem.
