Just a guess, but it would be a logical place for the engine compartment blower switch.

This switch does two things. UP is to test the alarm buzzer and both the oil pressure and over temp warning lamps. DOWN turns on the edge lighting for the tachometer.

It just tests the temperature warning lamp and buzzer. A cold engine will not trigger the sensor so the switch was installed to test the circuit. The others are tested by just turning the key switch on before the engine is started. As oil pressure will be zero and the alternator will not be generating any charge both warning lamps and the buzzer should turn on the moment you turn On the key switch.

Benny is right.

The set up is that UP tests the alarm buzzer and over temp warning lamp only. I forgot that mine is modified.
