Engine Start Key

I have a 3YM20 Engine. Only one engine key which I almost lost this spring. On the research Ive been doing to find out how to get another key, it seems like the keys are generic depending on the Engine type, and can be purchased online or from some Chandleries. Is this correct, or can anyone shed some light on getting a couple of new keys.
Thanks......

Should be able to get a yanmar key from any yanmar dealer/outlet. In some regions, you should be able to order online. And no, you’re not going to find it at a hardware store.

Go figure, they are available on Amazon for $15-16. Don’t know if it is OEM or after market. It’s only a key; as long as it works it’s good!

If all else fails, remove the old lock and install a Cole Hersey ignition lock to suit your requirements.

I replaced the original lock that came with the boat years ago to energize only the fuel gauge at the dock and not the annoying oil pressure alarm. After the tank was full, the key was then moved to the next position which activated the entire ignition process, alarms and all.

Good luck with Amazon.

Also can remove the key altogether. Install push buttons. Control start by control of power switch in cabin.
