Engine Speed for C-30 w/M-18

There will probably be as many different answers to this question as there are respondents, but, here goes...I have a Catalina 30 with a 4½' Shoal Keel. It has a Universal M-18 (14 HP) engine. What is the best cruising engine speed when comparing speed and effeciency.All thoughts appreciated.bb

Engine Speed For C30 w/ M18

Probably 2400 to 2600. You eventually reach a point where the engine is screaming but the speed is remaining constant. Once you get it up to about 5 1/2 knots your about at top speed.
