Engine Soundproofing

Has anyone found a cheaper alternative for engine compartment soundproofing than the expensive foil/lead foam sheets?

maybe 4'x8' insulation w/ foil outer layer

Home depot sells various thickness, (1/4"-3/4") sheets of insulation (4'x8'). it has a foil outerlayer, and is closed cell. BUT, no idea if it is fireproof... or what gas/diesel/oil will do.take a look next time at HD.. found in lumber dept.but its cheap

Sorry mrbill, not for engine rooms

It'll not work well in an engine room where you want to dampen sound. I used the stuff around my freezer. Use the lined/leaded foam for sound dampening.
