Has anyone moved the engine shut down control to the cockpit area? Mine is located in the companion way near the ladder. The surveyor recommended moving it to the cockpit near the helm area.

I moved mine to the engine box.

Dave: I actually moved mine to the top of the engine compartment. When we go into a marina that I am not familiar with I pull the fuel shut off out when I lock up the boat. Just makes it a little more difficult for the SOB's to figure it out if they try to steal the boat. The reason I did it was to protect the cable. Our cable is extremely easy to pull after over 10 years. When they are exposed to the elements they get corroded. I assume that his justification is in case of an emergency (run away engine etc.)?

What is it that. . .

provides you a separate shutoff? What keeps you from shutting down by throttling back to the limit? That is the way my H37C works. How would I recable/rewire to have this? Might prevent stalling the boat just before I hit the dock! :)

Fuel Shutoff!

Ed: On our boat, there was/is a cable to runs down to the engine that shut off the fuel to the engine. My friends '79 H'30 also has this. I think I remember that some of the older engines did not have this capability.

have same problem

I have an 89 Legend 37 and am also considering relocating the shut off control. It is not the highest item on my list right now, will let you know what I decide to do. I do know I want to put it within reach of the person at the helm, just not sure of the best/easiest location.

Solenoid switch

When a friend of mine bought his Legend 37, the previous owner mounted a solenoid switch on the engine and attached to the fuel shut off lever. The push button for the control is mounted in a drilled hole in the engine control panel in the cockpit. So all he has to do is push the button on the panel when he wants to shut down. Pretty slick!

Moving Engine Shut Off

My 35.5 has the shut off in the companionway also. I don't want it there. There is an aftermarket engine stop cable available from heavy truck equipment dealers complete with a mounting bracket. I also heard Yanmar has a kit. I would like to have the stop cable installed at the helm AND in the companionway. My mechanic says this retrofit can be done fairly inexpensively.
