Everything I have read indicates my max. engine rmp should be 3400 on my 2gmf yanmar, however it does not rev more than 2600 rpm. There is not a signifciant difference in engine speed when I am in forward or neutral, so I don't think the prop or shaft is the problem. The throttle cable appears to be operating correctly, open all the way. Anyone experienced simular problems.

Max not necessary

3400 may be max, but consensus recommendations are that you shouldn't be running at anymore than 75% or 80% of max, ie. 2550 or 2720. So you're in the ballpark. Have a beer.

May Be Your Mixing Elbow

The two times the 2GM20F on my H-30T gave me these symptoms it was found to be a mixing elbow that had become restricted.

Has it ever run near the max?

Lowell: Has your engine ever ran near the max? Will it rev past the 2600 RPM's in neutral?

I had a similar problem.....

This may not be your problem but checkng all fuel filters and bleeding the fuel system solved mine!
