Last year I purchased a 1987 37'Hunter Legend, powered by a 35 hp Yanmar. I do not have the original engine manual. In front of the engine block there is a plate that states ( 3200 rpm // 30 hp). That is the top rpm that I am getting with the current propeller. Can someone please advise me if this is the top rpm that the engine will run with the properly pitch propeller. I had a mechanic tell me that this engine is suppose top at 3400 rpm. Your response is always greatly appreciated. Thank You!

The manual sez:

Continous Rating 30/3200 One hour Rating 34/3400 But the recommended cruising speed is 70-80% of the One Hour Rating (max). The rule of thumb for a two blade prop (maybe 3 blade too) is one degree of pitch or one inch of diameter with give you +/- 200-250 rpms. (ie: If you decrease the pitch by one degree you will gain 200-250 rpms) My advice is to leave yours alone. Sounds like you are right on when you are in gear.
