Engine removal

I have to pull the XP-25 engine from my 1988 C30. I am pretty comfortable with the engine removal. What I'm not sure about is how to get the sink/cabinet unit off the base. I could especially use some help with the port side where the cabinet goes underneath that shelf with the sliding doors. I'm sure there is a perfect article somewhere in the archives, but i've never been terribly successful in finding stuff there.

Sink island removal

I've never done this (just boat my Cat 30 last month) but during looking at them I saw one gutted for an engine replacement. Between that and looking at mine, here is my limited take on it. On my 1984 model, there are several screws thru the teak rail around the bottom of the island on the aft side that anchor it. Thats all I can tell from what I know of mine because it has been repowered to a Yanmar and the forward side of the island has been altered to accommodate that. Now for the gutted one I saw: Same thing re: the screws thru the teak railing. The interesting part to me was that the port end of the countertop is long enough to pass under the cabinets on the port hull by way of a slot and it goes all the way to the hull. Screws held it in there. There also might be some on the underside of the countertop that you may have to remove (don't know about that but you might look). Anyway, the guy selling the boat picked up the whole island and slid it into place as a unit just so I could get a better idea of how the boat looked. Seemed to be pretty easy to do. Hope this rather vague info helps. Good luck

Very Easy

1. Remove the screws from the upper portion of the teal joining strips that connect the counter-top to the fiberglass. 2. Open the cabinet under the sink and remove all of the visible screws from the frame joining it to the fiberglass beneath. You have to be a bit of a contortionist to get them all but it IS do-able. 3. Open the port-side storage area (behind stove_ and remove the screws holding the shelf down. Note some are in the shelf and some are in the forward bulkhead. Remove the small strip of teak covering the AC electrical wiring and the 2 screws that appear as though they hold the port side shelf (forward of the galley) in place. 3. Take out the drawers and make sure there aren't any other screws holding the counter top down that you've missed. Note that many owneers may fasten engine compartment tubing or wires to the underside of the countertop with plastic ties and screws, so a thorough visual inspection is important. 4. Close the sink thru-hull and remove the drain tubing. 5. Turn of fresh water pump at the nav panel and remove hot and cold feed lines from the kitchen sink faucet. Also remove the screws holding the exhaust vent line to the underside of the countertop. 6. Lift the stove off of the swivel attached to the aft side of the counter top. 7. Perform a visual inspection all around and make sure you have removed ALL visible screws. 8. The counter top should now slide off by pulling the end to starboard. The entire unit will fit nicely on the staroard setee for temporary storage once you've removed all the cushions. Good luck!
