I've been following the thread on "Where to locate the engine panel" and have a question of my own on this matter. Like most, on my 1979 Hunter30 the panel is on the cockpit wall low next to the wheel and my feet. On the newer Hunters I seen at the Boat Show, the Yanmar B and C Type Engine panels are countersunk in a "pod" with a protective plexiglass front. Does anyone know of a supplier of these "pods"? I've emailed Hunter 3 times and have not received a reply.(So much for customer service). Thanks again for your help.

That appears to be the manner with which they housed the instrument panel. My bet is the newer panels come in that configuration and Hunter had to modify their molds for it. Retrofitting an old boat with that set-up would be a task.
If you like the idea for the newer system you may have to learn to make a mold and to work fiberglass in order to get one.

I fired an email off to Yanmar as Ron20324 recommended. I did consider fabricating a "pod" myself but decided "why re-invent the wheel", the "pod" is already out there, it's just a matter of finding the supplier and likely a lot cheaper and nicer than could be made.
Try Catalina Yachts. Their older Cat 30's had the same type of setup. You can get a new pod & plexiglass cover from them. Part #80281. If you want to get an idea of what it looks like you can go to catalinathirty.com. then click on Moving the Gauges.
Thanks to those who responded. I just heard back from Yanmar and they do not manufacture the "pods" and referred me to the boat builder. A special thanks to wchevron for providing a Catalina part #. I'm waiting for their response. Your website was great!!!
