Re: mounts

Rick, thanks for info and pics. Mine don't have metal bracket like yours. My engine sits on fibreglass bed. My concern is how is the mount bolted down to the bed. Is it "lag bolts" or machine bolt with nut glass in ?
Ken, I'd be very surprised if they are machine bolts/nuts. If it sits on the stringers (like our 1996 280) then they are attached using lag bolts. Easy to check, just unscrew one high enough to look at the threads.

I can assure you it is definitely lag screws into the engine bed. There is plywood laminated into the layup of the beds. Don't remember exactly how thick but I think it is about 3/4". As the lags are self threading there are no nuts laminated in. I know this for fact having swapped out the engine in my 33 myself.

Ok will try unscrewing alittle to see what thread it is. Thanks
Btw, IF it were to be lag screw, should I put anything to its thread to lub or protect or anything?

OK here is my 2 cents worth. Change them all if you plan on keeping the boat long term. As a rule generally only a bad mount would be changed but as long as you have gone to the trouble of doing two out of four may as well do them all. Half the job will be done already to replace the two as you will have the shaft disconnected and all four mounts will be disconnected and the engine lifted anyway.Just a little hint count the number of turns each nut when taking them off and use it as a reference for the new mount and that should put you in the ballpark for when you realign the engine after installing all new mounts You well benefit as a long term owner in that you will most likely never have to do them again. As part of this project I would try and find a way to divert/lessen or stop the water spray on the new mounts. Good Luck !

Pete, thanks for the directions. Make sense to change all. Corrosion due to leaks from mixing elbow. Elbow fixed sometime back but didn,t realise corrosion to mount till recent.

I've unscrewed one of the mounting bolt and it looks like a normal machine bolt (no thread for the expsoed 1/2") and not lag screw. I didn't have the courage to fully undo the bolt as I wasn't ready to work on the engine just yet should the bolt becomes a problem to re-tighten.
