What kind of lift do you use to lift your motor from the ground to the back of your boat ?

We used

our boom.

We swung out the old engine (photo below) to the finger dock, and just reversed it to get the new one in. Just make sure to tie the halyard or topping lift to the same area of the boom where you are putting the line to lift the engine.

We swapped out a Yanmar 2QM15 for a new 2GM20F

Slow, Use a twenty year old. His back is strong and he won't complain later because then he'd be a wuss.

Otherwise, lower the motor mount. Back the truck under the boat with the engine in the bed. Lift the motor to the mount then tighten the motor clamps. Put a lock between the clamp handles and you're good to go.

Now I ask for help - two guys better than one with the heavy four stroke. Otherwise when there's no one at the ramp I've had to back up to a raised curb so that it was only pessary to lift the motor 18" sideways and 8" hi to get it from the hand truck to the boat. The first time I lowered the stern by taking it off the ball and lifting the bow with the trailer jack to get the stern down but it didn't work as well.
