The Volvo D55 on our Beneteau 423 only has a tack and oil pressure guage, along with temp, alternator and pressure alarms. I would like to add a temp guage. Will I need to change the temp sensor? Can I keep the alarm as well? Any suggestions?

Yea, you have to add a temp sender that matches the gauge. I don't know that engine too well, but most have some spots with plugs in them that will fit the sender. It's NOT a good idea to put a Tee in the hole where the alarm sender is and mount both senders - the water doesn't get to the senders properly. But look around the thermostat - there should be something. I did this on my Yanmar, using the holes normally used to go to a water heater.

And yes, by all means, keep the alarm. You won't notice a gauge slowly going higher.
