Looking for pointers on how to go about replacing the short piece (2-3 inches) of hose that run from the engine (mixing elbow) to the aqua lift muffler. The engine is the Universal 25. I'm hoping I don't need to disconnect from the manifold!

Thanks in advance.

Good news

No, you don't have to remove the exhaust riser from the manifold.

What you need to do is buy what is called a "hump hose" available from Catalina Yachts.

The blue hose is the HH. It's a special 1-5/8 inch size that Trident makes only for Catalina Yachts. My exhaust riser split at the raw water intake nozzle. Check your riser while you're there.

Pictured is the old stiff hose that I formerly used before I bought the hump hose. It tends to crack the muffler intake port. You could use it if you chose, but since the HH is available, why not use it, 'cuz it's better.

Just disconnect the old hose from the end of the exhaust riser and the muffler and install the hh.

Re: Good news

Stu,

Thanks for the reply. But I think I still have a problem.

I don't see an easy way to remove the old hose. Like you said, it is stiff and it doesn't look like I have room to slide it up/or down to free it from one connection end.

I'm thinking I may need to cut the hose and then remove the aqua lift muffler. My concern is that I won't have enough room to install the new HH.

Is the new HH flexible enough to install with limited space?

I am not sure how your universal 25 is laid out, but if it is anything like the 5411 you might want to consider taking the exhaust pipe off of the manifold. It is not hard to do. The worst part is removing the old gasket.

With the exhaust pipe off it will be SO much easier to get the new flex pipe in. It just takes some work and some lifting. Look at my thread about the blown engine in my cat 30.
