Engine dying out

I recently had an electric lift pump put in because the manual lever on the original pump would not move. The old pump was not taken out.
The engine ran well at the dock and was run a few times.
Motored out 1/2 hour. Sailed out to out destination, but when I started the engine, it ran for about 4-5 min then died.
Could this be due to air siphoning from the original pump?
It is a Yanmar 27 hp engine on a B 32.

What happened next? Were you able to restart the engine by bleeding the lines? Bleed screw on secondary?
If it did restart did it run normally for some amount of time?

No we did not. Initially my mechanic bled the lines before leaving.
After they were bled, it ran for half hr.

More than likely there is air in the fuel line. Be sure all fittings to the new fuel pump are properly tightened, and then bleed again at the secondary filter, and retighten that bleed screw. When the fuel lines were re routed from the old pump, were they connected to the new pump properly? Power to the electric pump? Possible faulty pump?

The electricity was checked, works. The problem is that the old pump is stil connected.

Well my mechanic suggested that it could just be bypassed and left there.
