The removable floor / cover over our engine compartment is bolted to the cockpit floor and sealed with some form of caulking. Was this done at the factory or later? Any ideas on loosening the caulking and removing the hatch to do repairs?

Cockpit sole

This was recently discussed in this forum. The Hunter 30's from this era have a removable panel on the floor of the cockpit behind the bridgedeck and before the pedestal. The roughly square panel can be removed, giving great access to the batteries and the fuel tank. Becaus of the height of the seats, it is almost impossible to work on the rear of the engine, stuffing box, etc unless you can hang upside down. The panel is prone to leaks. You can clean and prepare the flange then caulk it neatly and fasten it down with screws or nuts and bolts if necessary. If you take your time, it will remain leak-free for several seasons. Good-Luck!
