Engine Control

I have a 1981 C30 with a 5411 Universal diesel engine. The retaining ring that locates the engine control mounted to the port cockpit riser is badly corroded and I need to obtain or make replacement parts. The threaded retaining ring is corroded beyond use and also a spacer, that looks like it's made from aluminum that is screwed to the riser and bears on the inside edge of the gear shift lever is also corroded and crumbling. The engine control mechanism itself is in good condition. I cannot see a model number or manufacturer for the control and am unable to locate a similar part in the Teleflex Morse catalog. Can anyone let me know the name of the manufacturer and where I may get replacement parts from? Help appreciated.

Same problem, marginal fix

I've got the identical model & problem. I fabricated a teak spacer (the one that is the same diameter as the shift drum/riser). There are four beefy screws that hold it in place. As long as you have easy movingshift/throttle cables, you won't need the retaining ring. The set screw on the shift riser keeps it from pulling out compensating (marginally) for the missing retaining ring. Mind you I consider this an interim fix. Until we find the real answer to your question... Good luck

Mine Too

I also have an 81 C30 with the identical problem. It was like that when I bought the boat 3 years ago and although it looked like holy old H, it still worked fine. I solved my problem by moving the engine controls onto the binnacle with the help of a kit from Edson. Now both speed and clutch controls are at my fingertips and the skin on my left ankle has a chance of staying there this summer. Good luck with your search. Ron s/v Seascape

Try this number

Hi again David. I was looking through my parts book today and found a Catalina Parts number for the engine control: K51 01 90 770 Engine Controls w/handle, bracket & connectors. K51 01 90F Fastener Kit (just lists nuts, bolts and washers required to secure to bulkhead, 4 of each). Try contacting Catalina's web site and see if they still have this part number(s) and go from there. Good Luck. Ron s/v Seascape
