Engine control cables

Is there a simple and easy way to lubricate the the engine and transmission control cables used with pedestal stearing? such a simple sounding task can be perplexing if nothing is spelled out in the owners manual.. Thanks in advance: Jim Why Knot!

SNOWBLOWER CABLE LUBE

is the slipperiest stuff I've found. I spray it on both ends of the cable, move the cable, spray again, etc. On my engine stop cable, I pulled the wire out and cleaned it, sprayed the lube through the cable and reassembled. Pulls easy!The brand I bought at a snowmobile dealer in Colorado (not here in Florida!)is Petrochem Cable Life; sez it's for motorcycles too.

The Simplest Method I Found .............

.......... was to remove the cable from the sheath and coat it liberally from one end to the other with Lubriplate #3000 Tacky, Moly, heavy grease. This stuff is so sticky you can't get it off your hands for a week. It makes the cable a little slow to move but NOTHING is going to get in that sheath and corrode the cable. Here's something I read.

One of the many boat maintenance books I read described this process: unhook the end of the cable at the pedestal. tape a plastic bag on the end, so that the end of the cable is inside the bag. Pour a small amount of oil into the bag, and then leave it for some amount of time to soak all the way through. As for the type of oil, I'm the wrong guy to ask. Hope this helps.
