Hello everyone, since this year I am the proud owner of a HR 26. After this summer, I decided to leave the boat in Sweden in a frost free (heated hall) at a NEWLY OPNED Marina. After the Marina personnel had put the boat on its wagon, I asked about cleaning the cooling system of the Volvo Penta MD 5B with glycol. The guy replied that this was not necessary in a heated hall and that they would do the oild change, filter change etc. I had ordererd st. during the winter. My question: Should I insist that some action be taken immediately. Thanks Chris

Normaly we treat the sea water system to prevent corrosion, it will be emty when lifting the boat and than the oxygen will makes it corrode. First run the engine warm with sweet water in order to flush it and than with the engin running fill the sea water system with water/glycol from the sea water filter with closed inlet valve until the mixture will start to come out from the exaust outlet. Or, as sometimes used, run the system with a special oil mixed with water and leave the system dry but lubricated over the winter.

Engine care

Chris, Even in a frostfree hall, let take out the water!! In case of failure of the heating system the engine is safe. The risk of corrosion is not high. In an old engine there is always calcium on the inner surface. Best regards, Hans
