Engine Blower

Hi All.

Last fall the blower for my engine quit turning on with the initial turn of the key. With a couple of weeks left before pulling the boat I figured I'd fix it this spring. Well now that spring has arrived (mostly), I've been unable to locate the blower. I've traced the exhaust lines on both side from the outlet to the engine compartment and there are no signs of a blower. Any one of you Beneteau owners have any idea where the blower is? Is the blower part the engine configuration? It's not in the manuals nor in the service books or schematics for the engine....

I have a Beneteauy 423 with A Volvo D2-55A.

Just when I think I've covered most everything I find something else I need pointers on. Thanks in advance.

Blower

On my 31 the blower is bolted to the exhaust louver just above the deck shower module. The electrical maze to get there goes from the alternator to a relay near the rear cabin bunk to the blower. The replacement unit I purchased from Beneteau parts doesn't fit so I replaced the brushes on the motor...
To reach any and all of the components you must be a left-handed double-jointed child of 10 or less... I'm a 200+ 6 footer; it took me weeks to completely straighten out!
Good luck

I have a 423 as well. I assume you're talking about the ventilation blower for the engine compartment?

If that's the case it's a simple repair/replacement. You'll find the blower in the bottom of the aft starboard locker. It's a standard blower common for powerboats and you can get it off the shelf at west marine or other marine outlets.

You undo the hose on both sides of the old blower, disconnect the wires and unscrew the blower from the wooden petition it sits on. It's a little tight in there - but I'm 6' and could manage.

I neglected to mention we have a very large 423 users group - more than 500 members. Just google Beneteau 423 yahoo users group.

I looked in that locker many time and don't see anything connected to the corregated exhaust hoses. What does it look like? I would think it would be so obvious. Im sure it'd be a simple fix but I must a total misconception of how the thing is hooked up. I would think that the blower is hooked to the exhaust vents and "blown" out the back.

It is an inline blower not much bigger than the flexible hose. I'll be at my boat tomorrow and take a picture for you. The only thing I can't account for is if the previous owner made a change - although that wouldn't made sense to do.

Turn the engine to on, do not start, and listen for the blower. Probably sounds like a bathroom fan?

The point from the beginning of the thread is that it is not working. When I turn the key on, the blower doesn't come on any longer. I'm trying to find it visually since I cannot hear it any longer...

Again the blower is located in the aft starboard locker - you'll need to crawl into it to locate it.
Before you replace it I'm put a meter on it with the key on to see if you have power going into it. Mine (photo) is a replacement so it might differ slightly. Again this is a standard blower used in powerboats to ventilate engine compartments - shelf item.

Now that sounds strange! I expect you to have two hoses like in my boat. One to take fresh air into the engine area without anything connected to it and another one to bring the hot air out of the engine area. The last one should have been connected to a blower right at the end of the hose attached to some aft lazarette I would guess. The blower in my boat is a plastimo blower, part ref: 16274 (http://www.plastimo.com/en/ventilateur-de-cale-classique-9710.html) just to get an idea how it looks like.

Edit: I have realised that I have a picture of it. Oh, by the way it was a bit tricky to find it. You really need to search inside the lazarette to spot it!

On the 423 there is only one blower.

Sorry for the delayed response. I've been traveling the last few days.

Thanks for the pic. I don't recall seeing that but I will look again tomorrow. It must be there. Maybe I just saw it as a mount point or something. Can't believe I didn't see the wires either.
Thanks again. I'll let you know.

Yes there are two hose just as you say. I haven't seen anything like what you show in the pic.
It must be tucked away enough where I completely missed it.
I'll look again tomorrow.
Thanks!
