Did I miss something? You put the CO producing appliance on the bow while at anchor and the fumes DO NOT end up in the cabin?... .
Bill I would agree with that in most cases, but like a lot of things I feel that one solution might not be best for every case.
When we bought the Endeavour we moved it over a few days from Ft. Myers Beach to Port Charlotte and the batteries weren't good and we had to run the Honda 2000 in the morning and early evening for a bit to charge them. For that boat I feel more comfortable running the Honda on....
.. the bow vs. back in the cockpit.
The boat is...
37 feet long and the cabin if fairly high compared to where the Honda sits on the bow and it is quite a ways back to the cockpit. Also this boat has the very high...
....coaming that surrounds the cockpit. All of the above is going to cut down on any concentration of fumes that finally make there way back there and if it is windy the concentration is going to be even less and if it isn't I think the fumes will tend to find there way over the side near the bow and not up and over the cabin top and....
...the high coaming where I'm standing in the picture above.
We would never run the Honda during the night and hopefully we won't ever be running it again with the solar panels and new batteries. We don't run anything on the boat with 110, so hopefully the Honda has seen its use. If we did need to use it for some reason I'd still put it back where it was as I feel for 'our boat' it is the best solution. As has been mentioned above just putting it at the stern is no guarantee of safety.
On the Mac I wouldn't put it on the bow, the gen-set on it...

.... is on the stern rail with the exhaust down at water level. There again we would never run this at night.
Stu thanks for the reply on the storage question, it helps,
Sum
