Last week, the alarm that beeps and the engine is started and turned off stopped working. The red lights still come on when the engine is started, but no noise. All other systems working normally. Thanks,Mike
alarm, so usefull to have. See if you have 12 volts to the little alarm speaker, if you do then replace the speaker/buzzer. If not, you are on your own.
If you don't have engine gauges you might want to add them. An easy and relatively inexpensive installation. If interested contact me through Owner Directory and I will send you instructions and photos showing how I installed them.
The buzzer sits between the switched side of the ignition switch and a ground. Find the wire that comes from the buzzer and goes to the ignition switch. Turn on the switch and test for 12 volts from the switch and then for 12 volts at the buzzer. You can poke the multimeter probe through the wire insulation to get a reading right at the buzzer. If that checks out, test the ground side. Turn the ignition switch off. You should get 0 ohms between the ground side of the buzzer and a good engine ground. You may need a long jumper wire to do this. If that checks out too then the problem is most certanly your buzzer is busted. You can get one at Radio Shack.
Check the wiring first. Mine sounds a little raspy but I have not yet gotten the urge to spend all the money. Got one from Radio Shack for a few bucks but then determined it was not going to last long in the marine environment. When it does fail I may consider installing an automotive horn with a relay switch. I made a habit long ago to periodically glance at my vehicle gauges and I practice that in the boat as well so to me the service provided by the buzzer does not justify its cost.
