A while back my h30 took an indirect lightning hit. Replaced everything that was taken out except the alarm on the panel. I have a 3 YM 20 Yanmar. I looked at the back of the panel - it's the stock panel with idiot lights - but could not really tell what to do. Does anyone know how or if it's even possible to replace the alarm although I'm fairly sure it's just a couple of connections. I'm fairly handy with these things having completely rewired my boat several years ago. Just need some guidance here. Thanks.

If your instrument panel is the same as my 3YM30, there is a circuit board that controls all the alarms. It runs about $90. I know that because...

Yes you would have to purchase an replace the Alarm Buzzer. Since you had a lightning strike you may want to insure your wiring harness and connectors are OK and bench test the Buzzer. Are your idiot lights working properly?

I had my hunter 37c down the coast at Clearwater beach and also had an indirect lighting hit . Took out my radar (mast mounted) and battery charger. The same hit took out my neighbors battery charger and refrigerator . And on a different time ,my son did not want to sleep next to the keel mounted mast while we were having a lighting show.

Thanks, Benny. I believe the harness is OK. This actually happened about four years ago and everything about the panel works OK except the alarm and, at times, the Hobbes meter fades in and out although it does record the actual hours. I'm in the middle of a major deck and cockpit painting job so this may be a good time to pull the panel and have it checked. -Roland

The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I took a lightening hit. Not to bad, it cooked my VHF and a few other things. It took out the alarm buzzer on my Westerbeke. No big deal, easy and relatively cheap fix.
