If it is like the 3JH (assume it is), it is located forward of the starter. Some user have removed the starter to get to the impeller.
We cut an access door on the port side of the engine compartment so access is much better. They are NOT easy to remove. We also use a "bent nose" plier to pull it out. Yanmar now has a new model impeller that make removal a bit easier. There is an adapter that screws into the impeller.
The impeller changeover on the 49 & 50 is awful.
I have a solution which will make it a 15 minute no-sweat job.
