I've been transporting an Engel(Elemax) genset SHX2000 in my car and notice strong smell of petrol. I couldn't find any vent valve on the fuel tank cap. So I shut the fuel cock, run the genset till carb is dry. The air in car improves lot but still has very faint smell of petrol. So is there a vent valve somewhere for this genset?

Petrol.. the carburetor float bowl must have a vent to atmosphere to function. It cannot be closed, and running the carb "dry" does not completely empty the float bowl. That bowl usually can be drained after you've run it with the valve shut off. Look for a small hose at the bottom of the float bowl .. if there is one there, it probably has a screw that can be opened to completely drain the bowl.. This will help more, but the vent will be open still and you may still smell a bit of petrol ..
EDIT: Ken, I have a fully enclosed gen also, and I can get to the bowl drain by removing the air cleaner access cover

Claude, ok so runnng the carb don't actually dry the carb fully. So thats why i'm still smelling some petrol, albeit lesser. Thanks for info.
