They're solid boats....

and they've all been in the water for 30 years, so any design flaws have been worked out. If you're interested in the Endeavour 32, I suspect you are looking at the one for sale in Gulf Breeze, Fl. I would suggest you look at 3 boats in the Yachtworld listings - 2 are in Punta Gorda, Fl and the third in North Ft. Myers. All are listed for less than $21,000, and all of these boats look to be in much better condition than the one in Gulf Breeze. A bimini, dodger, autopilot and nice cushions/mattresses can make all the difference in the world, and if they're in good condition, you will be getting them at a fraction of the cost of adding them to a boat that doesn't have them. :) One advantage of going a bit further afield in searching for a boat is that you have less chance of getting stuck with a hurricane boat like you recently did. Anyway, that's my 2c, now I'll get out of the way and hopefully you'll hear from people with specific experience in an Endeavour. Glad you came back, and that you're still intent on sailing. :) Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

Endeavour 35

A friend has a 35 which he sailed around the world for 7 years. Great solid nice-looking boat. However, some were bought as kits to be finished by owners. Some DIY owners used chain-saws to finish the interior woodwork. Others were finished by professionals. Those are apparent. Avoid the former.

Look at the endeavour owners web site

There is a separate web site for Endeavour owners, not part of this web site. Lots of good info on the various models and owner reviews. Good Luck!

Boats

Seadance, There was an Allmand 30 in Pennsacola a while back. It looked to be somewhat neglected, but overall in good condition, and fairly well loaded. Mostly just dirty. Asking price was way too high, but I suspect by now they would be willing to take some lower offers. I sailed one of these boats from Long Island to Fla. little over a year ago and was quite impressed. They are good solid boats, and very very roomy and well laid out. Would be very comfy for a family of three or four. Only draw 3'11 with the shoal keel, which is another plus for this area. Not overly tender. One of the things they have that I consider an advantage over lots of the others, is an encapsulated lead keel, which eliminates the keel bolt problems which are fairly common with bolt on keels. And the problems of cracking which is somewhat common to the cast iron keels. I think Brown was the broker who had it listed, but not sure. There is a Hunter 31 or 33 in Gulfport, at that marina right alongside I10. Stay away from that boat if you should see it. It is a Katrina boat, the keel is cracked and has been patched on, and it has been at least partially submerged. I talked to the owner and went to look at it before I bought the 37. He swore the boat had not been damaged, and totally mis represented it. In fact that was the boat that was kind of the last straw for me on looking at boats around here.

Endeavor 32

Practical sailor will sell you a report they did on this boat do a search for their web site. It is 7 or 8 pages long and pretty comprehensive. Practical Sailor considers this boat to be suitable for some offshore work. The molds for the boat began life as the Irwin 32, and the story goes that Ted Irwin lost the molds to Endeavor in a poker game. I owned an Irwin 32 I would expect the Endeavor to be a better built version of the irwin. The Irwin was a decent performer, though it did have a bit of weather helm. Being fairly narrow, the boat will heel a bit - though I would not use the term tender. It was not a good light air boat, but sailed nicely through seas and chop w/o pounding very much - though it would pound some. I liked my 32 a lot keeping it for a dozen years.

This is the address you need to purchase the report on the Endeavor. If you are serious about this boat, I think you will find the report helpful. I had a copy of it, but can no longer locate it. I amy have let it go with the boat when I sold it. http://www.practical-sailor.com/issues/boatreview/xref.html?inputLetter=E

E 32

We chartered one in the BVIs years ago. As I recall it had a big chart table to port with a port quarter-berth, a galley on the starboard side and a nice traditional saloon with a good V berth. Since you are looking at older boats, you'll find the interior size of any boat of any size built back then to be much smaller than the newer boats' designs. The boat sailed well and was comfortable, nice T shaped cockpit. Simple, single spreader rig.

Nice N easy . ..Katrina boat question

Hi! :) Was the Katrina boat you mentioned the Hunter 33' off of the Cowan Lorraine Bridge/Pass Road connection(near the college turn off), off the bridge in that small bay? Did he have a large sign with a phone number on it? If thats him he now has two other Hunters with them. One with the mast down and looks to be in real bad shape and the 33' That man swears up and down it was not a Katrina boat and it saw no water and he's asking $15,000. Says he got his boats in a lot purchase. I don't believe anyonne about the boats not being in Katrina around here anymore its why we headed into Florida. ~B/Seadance

Allmand 31

I own one of these 31 Allmands and highly recommend them . They sail great and tons of room with the tri cabin layout. It really seems like a 45 footer below with all the room. They made these in Florida 1975 to 1985. Good Old Boat is featuring the Allmand in it's July 2007 issue. Manufacturer is still making boats, power only. The sailboats are well made and the suppliers of all the parts are still in business. Check out the google site for more info. I love mine. Tons of space and all the amenities, heat/air,refer,propane. Very forgiving for the beginner too. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Allmand makes two sizes of sailboat, 31 and a 35. 6 foot 2 inch headroom. Roomy head/shower. Nice galley/microwave. Same interior though. I can send you some pictures if you'd like. Good luck and keep a open mind and a closed pocketbook. It's a buyers market. Keep it up, Ctskip
