Boats
Seadance,There was an Allmand 30 in Pennsacola a while back. It looked to be somewhat neglected, but overall in good condition, and fairly well loaded. Mostly just dirty. Asking price was way too high, but I suspect by now they would be willing to take some lower offers. I sailed one of these boats from Long Island to Fla. little over a year ago and was quite impressed. They are good solid boats, and very very roomy and well laid out. Would be very comfy for a family of three or four. Only draw 3'11 with the shoal keel, which is another plus for this area. Not overly tender. One of the things they have that I consider an advantage over lots of the others, is an encapsulated lead keel, which eliminates the keel bolt problems which are fairly common with bolt on keels. And the problems of cracking which is somewhat common to the cast iron keels. I think Brown was the broker who had it listed, but not sure. There is a Hunter 31 or 33 in Gulfport, at that marina right alongside I10. Stay away from that boat if you should see it. It is a Katrina boat, the keel is cracked and has been patched on, and it has been at least partially submerged. I talked to the owner and went to look at it before I bought the 37. He swore the boat had not been damaged, and totally mis represented it. In fact that was the boat that was kind of the last straw for me on looking at boats around here.
