Hunter 25 Lake St.Clair
I am in the process of buying a 2009 H25 (have not closed yet). Can anyone tell me when they stopped producing this model? I suspect it has something to do with their chapter 11?

Very excited about my new toy! Any suggestions re must have mods would also be appreciated.

The production of the Hunter 25 you spoke of ended between 2008 and 2009 as the new Hunter 27 Edge water ballast was coming out plus the demand for the 25 had waned. This had nothing to do with the bankruptcy which acutally happenned in 2012.

As for the boat, it offered many additions to the old 240 to include enclosed head, raised head room and wheel steering for starters. There were other major changes but it really never caught on as well as Hunter would have liked it to do so.

Thanks for the response, I figured this 2009 must be one of the last ones made. I needed a shallow draft boat for Lake St.Clair. I'm leary about water ballast as I intend to leave it in the water most of the time. Swing keel on the H26 is nice, but I almost certainly would forget to raise it and do some marine plowing. Hopefully this boat will serve me well. It is certainly not the Hunter 376 my father sails.

YOu are correct that the 25 was not a water ballast and sails fine. Only one issue I had with it. If you encounter a great side wind on either beam while docking, crab the bow or point the bow into the wind like an airplane and then straighten up the bow right before coming into the dock. If you feel uncomfortable about the approach, do it again as you will not be the first and trust me that this occured for me as well.

Happy sailing and God given fair winds.

Dave is spot on about docking the boat. My slip almost always has a crosswind and I do just what he suggests. My H25 is a 2006 and I love the boat. Like you, I wanted a shallow draft boat without water ballast. My previous boat had a swing keel and I don't miss that at all. There are a few new model H25 owners on this board, so if you have other questions, just ask. Enjoy the boat.
