Well, Vega heads...this will be my last update about the voyage of Emma Gail. I worked on my little vega for over a year, and then departed last December 12th on my Solo Circumnavigation. meandered south out of Galveston, down to mexico, honduras, panama, the galapagos, marquesas, tuamotus, tahitti, moorea, bora bora, samoa, and then out across on a run to the torress straits. Not sure if y'all remember, but i got knocked down twice and parted the forestay, but managed to limp down to Port Villa, Vanuatu. and get most of the repairs done. but storm season was too close at hand for me to get clear of australia before cyclone season, so i decided to anchor Emma Gail in Vanuatu and return back home until this spring, when i planned to return and complete what i had started. And you know what they say about well laid plans...Well just this morning i got word that a hurricane hit port villa, and that my boat broke free and was lost... what a bummer. She was a good little boat... So is life! Farewell to you all...and Fair winds.

Kenneth, so sorry to hear that you lost Emma Gail. Words seem so inadequate .... just glad you weren't lost too!

Awww. I'm so sorry to hear about your boat, but as they say, better to have
loved and lost, than never to have loved at all...and better to have taken
risks, pushed off and had an adventure than to have stayed in your home port and
just dreamed of far off places. Sheila

Commiserations on your loss Kenneth, but as posted earlier, at least you weren't aboard, so grit your teeth, get yourself another boat and set off again; view this as an opportunity to visit all those places between Galveston and Vanuata that you missed first time around.

Kenneth,

All I can say is that although it was not the ending any of us ever dreamed off,
you lived for a while in a dream we all at some point wanted.

Farewell.

It is always sad to hear of one loosing a boat, but is at not better to have
lost a boat that you have sailed half way around the world, than to have lost
one that has taken you nowhere?

The experience you've had on that Emma Gail you would have forever.

Hope Insurance replaces it.

Caesar

Kenneth. I most definitly concur. Your voyage has been an inspiration. You"ve contributed greatly to that which gives others the wherewithal to follow the adventure in small boats. Sorry for the loss. Glad that you weren't st at sea at the time. Walt

Keith, that's a sad ending to a remarkable journey.
If you feel like it sometime, it would be great to get some insight on how you prepped your boat for this trip, what worked and what didn't (obviously leaving the boat in Vanuatu didn't work so well) and any tips on sail selection, trimming, single handing, gear, what you would do differently etc while out in the big blue ocean.

I would guess that anyone with the gumption to leave on such and adventure will rebound and go on to explore more of life's challenges. Good luck in your next adventure -Tim

Glad you are safe! Emma Gail rests with Poseidon but NEVER loose your dreams. Twenty five years ago I had a dream, it has taken until now to begin that dream. When I was shopping for my Vega I saw one listed for sale in the west Pacific but I couldn't find the info at the moment. wes
