Can any give me information on where to purchase or how to make an emergency tiller for my 1988 272LE? Thanks Ronnie

A simple solution, I think

Ronnie, My 272 LE almost lost the pin connecting the pushrod to the rudder on trip this summer, I looked down just in time to fix it. This experience made me think of a emergency tiller. Then it hit me that some 272's were tiller equipped, so I am assmuing that factory tillers (including hardware) are available through Rudy. If not with the exposed rudder it should not be much of a problem to having a fitting fabricated for a tiller purchased at any of the marine stores i.e., Boat U.S./West Marine/etc. Such an item is definitly on my todo list before spring.

I read your request and Pauls reply, my 1988 272LE came from the factory with an emergency tiller. I can take pictures if both of you want to see what it looks like to make one. Just send me your e-mail address and I'll try to get those pictures to you in the next day or two. I've attached a link to a web page of mine showing all the modifications I've done to my boat if you are interested.

I saw in the Boat US catalog where you can order a new tiller for an O'day 272- a spare tiller would be good to have on board- the cost was $65.00.

Thanks Gerry for the pics, e-mailed and on your web site, of the "emergency tiller". I'm sure that you have helped very many 'LE owners like myself. Thanks again, Brian.
