hey all... I have a 1980 S29.2a and it has a plastic deckplate on the back seat/bench area... under that is teh rudder post... but I dont have an emergency tiller, nor do i see how it would connect to that, and or stick up above the seat/bench, and or have enough room to move to control the boat/rudder without hitting the steering wheel pedestal...

I can not find any part for any boat that would allow a enmergency tiller to be connected to the rudder post? Isnt that a pretty standard part? should i just fabricate something out of conduit and a bolt that rests into the key atop the rudder post?

what all do you have?

thanks

I fabbed one up on my 8.0C

Mine had to be a looog post to connect to rudder post as it had to come up out through the aft cabin deck hatch! That or I'd be shouting down to the first mate steering corrections.:)

I'll see what I have lying around, but basically, I rigged a clamp bar across the steering quadrant which t's a piece of pipe that connect to a seonc piece of pipe nested in the lower pipe and secured with a cross pi. this assembly rises above the deck through the aft hatch. To the pipe I can attach the ships wheel. It isn't perfectly in line with the rudder shaft and does not hve full rudder notion range but close enough to get me home and it is locked in plase positively.

I plan to attach a tube and pin it to the shaft shown in the pix. I would like to use a swivel to get the right angle in case I have to steer this way for a while

I will be at the boat this weekend and will take a picture of mine. I still don't think it would be easy to apply enough force to use except under mild conditions.

I am attempting the same thing. I have an S2 8.0C. My plan is to remove the top piece of wood and replace it with 1/2" aluminum which will give me more exposure of the SS shaft. I will put a brass bushing in the aluminum for the shaft to fit through. I plan to use 5” round aluminum stock and mill a piece that will replace the brass collar on the top of the SS shaft. This piece will have 4 studs and will be permanently attached to the SS shaft and function like the top brass collar. The second piece I will mill will match and attach to the first using the 4 studs and maybe through the hole in the SS shaft. I am afraid that if I do not use the hole in the shaft, that the assemble might slip. This second piece will have a swivel assembly on top of it that will attach to the rudder handle. (I am having my son-in-laws design the two matching pieces and the swivel.) They are working on it now. When they are finished, I will attach a drawing of their design. The reason for the two parts is that there does not seem to be room under the plywood cover under the mattress to have the swivel assembly attached at all times.

I am new at this, so give me your ideas.
